Members & Volunteers

Subtitle

ANARRA welcomes new members who want to help rescue and care for wildlife.

Our mission

Some of ANARRA’s most active members regularly rescue injured, orphaned or sick wildlife.

Our rescuers travelled over 20,000 km in just six months in 2019 rescuing and transporting wildlife.

Some of our more experienced members care for wildlife in their own home. This can be a very time consuming task as many young joeys need regular feeding around the clock, and depending on the age of the species, sometimes every two hours.

Other members support the group through fundraising, events like sausage sizzles, providing educational activities and helping with the administration of the organisation.

Who can be a member

Our members come from all walks of life – professionals, retirees, students, wildlife park workers.

They all have one thing in common – a desire to help our native wildlife.

Most of our members live in the Gympie or Wide Bay region. We do have some members that live further afield and support the group out of respect for Paula and the work she has been doing for so long, and also because Paula is a very valuable source of knowledge for people in remote areas who also rescue and care for wildlife.

Meetings & workshops

ANARRA meetings are held monthly, on the last Sunday of the month.

Meetings are held at Wildlife HQ at Paula and David Rowland’s property at 288 Greendale Rd, Glastonbury.  The meetings start at 10 am, and provide members with an opportunity to share their concerns, be updated on the latest rescues and condition of the wildlife in care, and plan for future activities.

In addition, Workshops are held throughout the year to educate those who wish to support the work we do.
Workshops are usually $10 each and FREE for ANARRA members.

We aim to regularly run workshops covering basic rescue and primary care of wildlife, and advanced workshops covering birds, macropods, possums, flying foxes and koalas. Rescuing and caring for wildlife can be one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have. Watching wildlife recover from trauma or illness and be able to be released back into the wild is incredibly gratifying and heartwarming.  However, at times, the injuries or illness sustained by some species is too great, so a decision to end their suffering is made.  At times like these, we recognise, that despite our best efforts, we simply cannot save everything.

The Orientation and Primary Care of Wildlife workshops are the first essential step towards becoming a wildlife rescuer or carer.  ANARRA aims to offer these workshops twice a year to educate members of the public interested in helping native wildlife.
